To legally undertake structural landscaping (walls, paving, decks) over a certain value, most states require a specific license. That license almost always requires a formal qualification.
Choosing the right course dictates your career path. A Cert III is the standard entry point for an apprentice.

Skipping the Cert III
If your goal is to design gardens, you still need on-site experience. You will design structures that are impossible or unnecessarily expensive to build if you haven't laid them yourself.
